OUR FOOD
What is fresh food?
Fresh food is food that is minimally processed, does not contain preservatives, additives, and is made with high quality whole food ingredients. For doggos, fresh food could refer to both raw and cooked food.
A good way to understand the difference is to compare a can of tuna vs a raw/cooked piece of tuna. In comparison to canned tuna, the raw/cooked tuna that you have on your dinner table is typically better quality than what is from the can (which is typically scraps from off cuts), contains no preservatives or additives, and will be a better source of nutrition.
Kibbles and canned food are typically highly processed foods, just like a can of tuna.
What does it mean that Bailey’s Bento is complete and balanced?
This means that our meals contain all of the nutrients your doggo needs in the right amounts to maintain good health. This includes protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals.
We use AAFCO guidelines to craft all our meals.
Is Bailey’s Bento raw?
No, Bailey’s Bento is cooked to ensure that it is free from harmful bacteria and pathogens. Our gentle cooking process also makes the food easier for your doggo to digest, whilst retaining all the necessary nutrients.
How is Bailey’s Bento made?
Bailey’s Bento is made using high-quality ingredients that are gently cooked in small batches to retain their nutritional value. The food is then portioned into individual servings and packaged in convenient, eco-friendly bento boxes.
Why is a transition necessary?
Doggos, like humans, have specific nutritional requirements to maintain optimal health. However, their digestive systems are different from humans in that they are designed to process certain types of food more efficiently. Switching a doggo to a new type of food suddenly can be difficult for their digestive system to handle, especially if the new food is significantly different from what they are used to. A transition period allows their digestive system to gradually adjust to the new food, which can help prevent digestive issues such as vomiting, diarrhoea, or constipation. Additionally, some doggos may have more sensitive stomachs than others, making a gradual transition even more important for them.
Where do you source your ingredients from?
We source our ingredients from the same trusted suppliers that restaurants and grocery stores and markets in Singapore buy from. We only use high quality whole foods that are suitable for human consumption.
Why do you have vitamins and minerals in the food?
Bailey’s Bento includes vitamins and minerals to ensure that your doggo receives all of the essential nutrients they need to maintain good health. While whole ingredients are nutritious, the nutritional value of individual ingredients can vary widely, making it difficult to ensure that your doggo is getting all the nutrients they need from whole foods alone. By adding vitamins and minerals to our recipes, we can provide your doggo with a more complete and balanced diet that meets their specific nutritional requirements. Our nutrients are carefully balanced to provide your doggo with the right amounts of each nutrient. We also use organic minerals, which are more easily absorbed by your doggo’s body, making them more effective than synthetic minerals.
What is the difference between organic and synthetic minerals?
Organic minerals are minerals that are bound to organic molecules, such as amino acids, which make them easier to absorb and utilize by the body. Unlike synthetic minerals, which are chemically produced in a laboratory, organic minerals are sourced from plants, yeast, or other natural sources. This allows them to have a similar structure to the minerals found in whole foods, making them more bioavailable to the body. Organic minerals are less likely to be excreted from the body unused, making them a more efficient source of nutrition for your doggo.
How does your recommendation calculator work?
Bailey’s Bento’s recommendation calculator, which was developed in collaboration with our nutritionist, considers your doggo’s weight, age, activity level, body condition score, neutering status, and other factors to determine the appropriate amount of food for your doggo. The calculator uses your doggo’s information to estimate the number of calories they require, and then recommends a portion size that meets their needs. Please keep in mind that while our calculator provides a good guideline, every doggo is unique, and their needs may fall outside our suggested ranges. If you have any concerns or questions about your doggo’s nutrition, please don’t hesitate to contact us, and we’ll be happy to help you tailor their diet to their specific needs.
Why do you use vegetables in your food?
Bailey’s Bento includes vegetables in its food for several reasons. Vegetables are a rich source of vitamins and minerals that may not be present in sufficient quantities in meat alone, such as vitamin C, vitamin A, and potassium. Vegetables also contain fiber, which can aid digestion, promote gut health, and help with regularity. Additionally, vegetables contain important phytonutrients, which have been shown to have a range of health benefits for doggos.
A diet that is too high in meat can put additional stress on a doggo’s liver and kidneys, which can be harmful for doggos with health issues such as liver or kidney conditions. Additionally, a diet that is too high in fat can cause obesity, which can lead to a host of other health problems. By including vegetables in the diet, the overall nutrient density of the food is increased, and the fiber can help with digestion and regularity. We use vegetables to balance out the fat content of the food, and to ensure that your doggo receives a well-rounded diet that meets their nutritional needs.
Doesn’t cooking destroy nutrients?
Bailey’s Bento uses a gentle cooking process that retains more nutrients than other cooking methods. While some nutrient loss can occur during cooking, the nutritional content of the food is carefully formulated to ensure that it is complete and balanced. We do this by taking into account the effects of cooking on nutrient availability, to ensure that the meals still provides all the essential nutrients that your doggo needs. Additionally, by cooking the food, we can reduce the risk of pathogens that may be present in raw meat. Overall, our cooking process strikes a balance between maximizing nutrient retention, while ensuring that the food is safe and nutritionally complete for your doggo.
Is Bailey’s Bento suitable for puppies?
Bailey’s Bento is not currently formulated for puppies as we use adult maintenance guidelines to ensure that our recipes meet the nutritional needs of adult doggos. Puppies have unique nutritional requirements, and we are working to develop a special recipe that meets these needs. We recommend that puppies under 12 months of age do not consume our current recipes, but we look forward to releasing a puppy formulation in the near future. In the meantime, we recommend consulting with your veterinarian to find a suitable diet for your puppy.
Is Bailey’s Bento suitable for senior doggos?
Yes, our meals are suitable for senior doggos. Bailey’s Bento uses adult maintenance guidelines to formulate our recipes, but they include nutrients that support joint and brain health, which is particularly important for senior doggos.
My doggo is having diarrhea. Help!
If your doggo is experiencing diarrhea, it’s important to first assess the situation. Soft stools can be normal when transitioning to a new food, which is why we provide a transition kit to all new customers. If the diarrhea persists for more than 1-2 days, we would recommend stopping the food and contacting us to let us know. We take all cases of digestive issues seriously and will work with you to determine the best course of action.
What is the shelf life of Bailey's Bento?
All meals have a shelf life of up to three months when stored in the freezer. Once thawed in the refrigerator, the food can be kept for 3-4 days. To preserve the quality of the food, it’s recommended to thaw it slowly in the fridge. Any excess food that’s left out at room temperature for more than two hours should be discarded to avoid the risk of bacterial growth.
Can I microwave the meals?
Microwaving the meals is not recommended, as it may lead to the destruction of heat-sensitive nutrients such as enzymes and certain vitamins. For optimal nutrition, we suggest serving the meals cold, straight from the refrigerator after they have been thawed. However, if you prefer to serve the food warm, we recommend a gentle steaming method for a short period of time, typically around 2-4 minutes, to warm the food to a suitable temperature without compromising its nutritional value. Steaming is a gentler heating method that helps to preserve the food’s nutrient profile.
Can I serve the food to my doggo cold?
Yes, you can serve Bailey’s Bento to your doggo cold. We recommend storing the food in the refrigerator and allowing it to thaw slowly in the fridge before serving it to your doggo. Once the food has thawed, it can be served cold. However, if your doggo prefers warm food, you can also gently steam the food for a few minutes to warm it up before serving. Just be sure not to make the food too hot as this can reduce the nutritional value of the food.
Can I refreeze Bailey's Bento?
We do not recommend refreezing Bailey’s Bento once it has been thawed, as refreezing can compromise the quality and safety of the food. However, we’ve made it easier for you by portioning our meals specifically to meet your doggo’s requirements, allowing you to thaw and serve only what you need!
My doggo doesn’t like the food. What should I do?
There are a few things that you can try to encourage your furkid to eat, including: 1) mixing in a small amount of their favourite food to make the Bailey’s Bento more appealing, 2) serving the food at a different temperature, or 3) feeding smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day to see if this schedule works better for them. If your doggo still refuses to eat the food after trying these tips, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to help you find a solution that works for your doggo’s unique needs!
Is Bailey’s Bento safe for doggos with more sensitive bellies?
Bailey’s Bento is a great option for doggos with more sensitive bellies as our food is cooked, which makes it easier to digest and reduces the risk of contamination. Additionally, our recipes are free from artificial preservatives, additives, and fillers, which can also be hard to digest for some doggos.
What are the ingredients in Bailey's Bento?
Bailey’s Bento meals are made with a mixture of meats and vegetables, using whole ingredients that are human-grade. Our focus is on providing a balanced diet for your doggo, so our recipes include high-quality proteins and a variety of vegetables to ensure your doggo gets the necessary nutrients.
